February 14th – 23rd
SCOTTSDALE ARABIAN HORSE SHOW

INSIDE STORY: Over 2000 of the worlds most beautiful and talented Arabians come to compete for the title of Scottsdale Champion. Divisions include: Halter, Hunter, Western, Equitation, Cutting, English/Country English, Reining, Cutting, Working Cow Horse, Dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Sport Horse, Liberty and Costume. Two expo tents contain 300 booths with clothing, jewelry, artwork and horse-related items. It’s kind of a fun place to shop. And there’s a whole different group of people at this event that you don’t often se elsewhere. Unless you’re involved in the horse industry, it’s not that easy to socialize at this event. ~RH

INSIDE STORY: This is a unique wine taste. It is fun and I always see people I know. It has a smaller attendance generally that the Scottsdale and Metropolitan Phoenix Boys & Girls Clubs Wine Tastes. But there’s lots of food and drink and a cute silent auction. It’s a great date night and not bad for meeting new single friends.  ~RH

SATURDAY – MONDAY, APRIL 5th – 7th

GOLF TOURNAMENT & JAM SESSION
To benefit the Solid Rock Foundation

Saturday, April 5th, Dinner and Auction
6 pm Registration, Silent Auction, Hors D’oeuvres (no host bar)
7:30 pm: Gala Auction/Pairings Dinner (no host bar)
J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa
5350 E. Marriott Dr., Phoenix

Suggested attire: James Bond Chic – Casino Elegant
$200 per person or reserve a 10 Agent Table for $2,000

INSIDE STORY: I’ve attended several of the jam sessions and went to the tournament a couple different years. The tournament is a ton of fun. The jam session is even more of a blast if you go with a date. It’s a great night to splurge and help a charity, the Solid Rock Foundation. It’s not really a great place to find single people. In the past, jammers have included David Cassidy, drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford of Credence Clearwater Revival, Pat Boone, Meatloaf and more. It’s hosted by Seinfeld’s J. Peterman/John O’Hurley. It’s worth the ticket. And the silent auction is usually pretty good and because of Alice’s love for golf, it usually has great rounds of golf! His team often wins the tournament. This year, 200 amateurs can golf along with the celebrities for $2,500 at the Wildfire Golf Club.

Here’s the list of celebrities attending this year:
A.J. McLean, Ann Ligouri, Bruce Jenner, Cheech Marin, Chuck Woolery, Dennis Haskins, Dick Butkus, Elke Sommer, Eric Dickerson, Fred Williamson, Gilby Clarke, Glen Campbell, Hal Greer, Jim Lobriola, John Mendoza, John O'Hurley. John Sununu, Ken Kerman, Kevin Sorbo, Lyle Waggoner, Mark Cordes, Mike "Black Jack" Wilson, Nehl Bobal, Neil Lomax, Pat Boone, Patrick Warburton, Paul Gleason, Richard Karn, Richard Roundtree, Scooter McGruder, Stephen Root, "Super Dave" Osborne, Vida Blue
Wayne Rogers. Celebrity guests are subject to change without notice.  ~RH

   SUNDAY, APRIL 6th, 6 – 9 pm
TASTE 2003 – aka WINE TASTE
Host: Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix
NEW LOCATION! Kierland Commons
Greenway & Scottsdale Rds.
Post-taste: Westin Kierland

2002 ATTENDANCE: 4,500
Estimated 2003 attendance: 6,000!

TICKET SCOOP:
Again, S.P.I.E.S. is sponsoring the Taste!  I've purchased several Sponsor packages. Since I purchased so many, I can pass all the tickets on to you at a discount.
General Admission, regular $150 for $125.
Sponsor Badge for Taste and Post-Taste: TBA (Not normally for sale individually)
VIP Badge for Taste, Post-Taste & VIP areas: TBA (also not normally for sale)

So you can receive a tax deduction, all checks and credit card charges are made payable to the Boys & Girls Clubs. You can also pay cash.

INSIDE STORY: I’ve attended the Taste the last seven years and had booths for S.P.I.E.S. at three! We gave away Seinfeld tickets last year. I’ll let you know what we’re doing this year.
After the Birds Nest, the Taste has the highest attendance of attractive and successful single guys and girls. The girls here seriously dress up…low cut cocktail dresses and a few very sexy long gowns. It makes a great date night, too.
The men’s Executive Council puts in lots of hours and host a first class event. This is their first time at Kierland Commons, a big switch from many previous years at Biltmore Fashion Park and the Wrigley Mansion (post-taste). All the streets will be closed down at Kierland, where Ra and Zinc Bistro are. Hardly anyone sits down, except those few hanging out in the VIP area. You won’t miss a lot if you don’t have VIP tickets. A lot more people have general admission tickets! And you know the boys go where the girls go. There’s lots of great food from local restaurants and wineries. Hundreds of people holding post party badges crowded into the Wrigley last year. It was a madhouse. The new Westin Kierland is sure to be an improvement. There’s music and more to drink and still more fun starting at 8 at the Post Taste. It usually dies down around 11. ~RH

FRIDAY, APRIL 11th,

https://www.phoenix2030.com/moonsplash/concerttickets.htm

INSIDE STORY: For an additional $10, you can purchase preferred valet parking and miss the short walk from the off-site parking facility. Because of the ticket price, they’re advising people to purchase tickets in advance and they may sell-out. But I don’t know how you could sell out a party at a golf course, unless it’s inside The Raven. You may want to check on that. If there are tickets left April 1st, they’re raising the price to $40.

SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH, 7pm-1am
THE BLT AFFAIR…Black tie Leather Toga

Benefiting the Foundation for Burns & Trauma

The Sunburst Resort
4529 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale
$500 prize for best party attire (usually guarantees a lot of creative costumes!)
Ladies: $15, Gentleman: $25, Couples: $35, non-attired: add $10
Info: Rex, (602) 670-4739
Silent auction, live entertainment, dancing

INSIDE STORY: Per the event information I was given, for the past 21 years, the BLT Affair on Long Island has been the event of the year. Two thousand of Wall Street’s finest flock to the Hampton’s for a celebration wearing black tie, leather and toga or combinations thereof to raise money for local charities. For the past 13 years, the Affair has been having success in Southern Cal. This is the second event for Scottsdale. Appropriate attire appreciated.
What you really want to know is who’s on the host committee. If you know these folks, you know the crowd they can get together. Many have been a part of the former P&P costumed, edgy event with many scantily clad men and women that used to be at the wonderful Dick Emerine’s home. But the party got too big and the neighbors complained. I feel pretty square when I go to their parties, but I always meet some nice people. Well, here’s who’s putting this one together: Rex Beatty (who also did all of those Labor Day weekend houseboat trips to Lake Powell), Jack Preda, Pam Seuffert, Stephani Province, Chris Gallegos, Tracy Seldin, Anna Short, Lisa Colaw, Katherine Lee, Jack Goldstein and Tommy Thompson.
The Sunburst Resort has set aside rooms for people who don’t want to drink and drive. Mention the BLT when you call for reservations.  ~RH

FRIDAY, APRIL 25th, 6-10 pm

INSIDE STORY: I’m told the event sold out last year and they’re selling 2003 tickets this year beginning the end of February. Must be 21 to attend.
